In a dramatic turn of events, former Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sensationally claimed that top officials in the Kenya Kwanza government plotted to assassinate him over the weekend.
Speaking from his Karen home on Monday, May 19, Gachagua accused President William Ruto’s administration of orchestrating a deadly scheme to silence him once and for all.
Gachagua said the sinister plan was set to unfold on Sunday, May 18, while he attended a church service in Gatanga Constituency, Murang’a County.
He told reporters that he received what he described as credible intelligence, warning him that orders had allegedly come from the very top—to “deal with him permanently.”
“I was informed while at the church service that there were clear instructions to eliminate me,” Gachagua declared in the fiery press briefing.
According to him, the initial attempts to harm him involved state-sponsored goons, but after several failed efforts, law enforcement agencies were reportedly brought in to finish the job.
“When the goons failed, the state dispatched police and other security agents. They had orders to take me out,” he added, alleging that things escalated when multiple police units surrounded his residences later that evening.
Gachagua also claimed he was tipped off by whistleblowers within the police force—patriotic officers who he says refused to participate in the plan.
These officers allegedly revealed that there were instructions to plant illegal arms in his motorcade in a bid to frame him and justify his arrest.
“We were told that weapons were to be planted in our convoy so they could have evidence to arrest and possibly charge us with criminal offenses,” he said.
The former DP further revealed that his team had to take emergency action to avoid being trapped.
He said they rerouted his journey back to Karen to escape a planned ambush and prevent his security team from being stripped of their weapons.
“They wanted to disarm my security detail and cut off my protection. We had to take a different route to avoid being cornered,” Gachagua stated.
The chilling claims come just days after Gachagua stirred controversy with explosive remarks suggesting that Kenya could plunge into chaos during the 2027 elections if the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) fails to deliver a fair outcome.
Critics have since accused him of inciting violence, but Gachagua doubled down, saying his remarks were a “precautionary message” rooted in Kenya’s turbulent electoral history, not a call for unrest.
“We’ve seen what happens when elections are bungled—1992, 1997, 2007. I only asked for accountability. It’s not incitement, it’s a warning,” he argued.
The former second-in-command’s bombshell claims are expected to deepen political tensions in the ruling coalition, raising serious questions about security, loyalty, and political survival ahead of the 2027 general election.
