Bushenyi – National Resistance Movement  delegates from the Greater Bushenyi region have declared they will stand firm against intimidation and threats to end what they call two decades of manipulation and abuse by businessman-turned-politician Hassan Basajjabalaba.

Speaking in hushed tones but with unwavering resolve, delegates from Sheema, Bushenyi, Ruhinda, and Buhweju accused the Basajjabalaba family of orchestrating election fraud in Bushenyi-Ishaka municipality and at national level for years.

“We have seen it all voter bribery, intimidation, suppression of voices, and tampering with Declaration of Results forms,” said a delegate from Kabirisi road in Ishaka town. “Every election here has been turned into a family business. Look at what happened in the last primaries which his son fraudulently won”

The delegates claim that violence, assault, and even loss of life have marred past polls, with incidents quietly buried under the weight of the family’s political and financial influence.

One veteran delegate and resident of Tank Hill , Bushenyi town told this reporter that August 25th will mark the beginning of a new chapter.

“We have been silent too long. This time, we will not match his money with money. We will match it with unity. The power will be in our hands.”

Others said the office of NRM Entrepreneurs League chairperson should not be held by a man battling court cases, creditors, and endless controversy.

“The traders need a leader who will put them first  not one whose calendar is filled with court hearings,” said a youthful delegate from Buhweju.

Fear, But Determination

Some delegates admitted they could not speak publicly, citing fear for their safety.

“We fear for our lives,” whispered a female delegate from Ryamabengwa, Bumbaire “But in the secret of the ballot, we shall end 25 years of misery and looting.”

They accused Basajjabalaba of using both money and the prestige of office to tilt results in his favor, stifling any chance for fair competition.

Their message is clear that the league must be led by someone with a clean record, proven financial stewardship and no liabilities hanging over their head.

“We want stability, transparency, and trust,” said a businessman from Nyakabirizi, Bushenyi town. “We cannot have a league where the leader’s name is whispered in court corridors more than in trade forums.”

As August 25th approaches, the delegates say their resistance will not be loud, but it will be decisive ending an era that in their view, has cost traders both dignity and opportunity.
