A disturbing incident unfolded in Buyengo Town Council, Jinja District, where a local police officer identified as Malinga received a suspicious envelope containing a bullet and threatening leaflets.
According to reports, the envelope was handed over to Malinga by his neighbor, Aidah Nangobi, who said it had been delivered to her shop by an unknown woman. Nangobi explained that the woman, who had concealed her identity with a veil and was riding a motorcycle, insisted she was in a hurry and asked Nangobi to pass the envelope on to Malinga.
“I recognized the name and agreed to help, thinking it was something important,” Nangobi stated.
The contents of the envelope included anonymous leaflets accusing Malinga of being involved in criminal activities in Mayuge District and allegedly fleeing to Jinja to escape accountability.
Startled by the threatening message and the presence of live ammunition, Malinga immediately reported the incident to the police.
“I have no idea who might be behind this. I was shocked and went straight to the police after opening the envelope,” he said. “We tried to trace the woman who delivered it, but she was already gone.”
Kiira Region Police Spokesperson, James Mubi, confirmed the incident, stating that the bullet and documents have been secured as evidence at Buwenge Central Police Station. He added that investigations are ongoing, with law enforcement collaborating with other security agencies to trace the origin of the threat and understand the motives behind it.
