Kakumiro Brave Man Who Thumped PM Nabbanja Sent to Sleep at Kibale Prison Coolers

Bugangaizi East Constituency NRM flagbearer Onesmus Twinamatsiko has been dragged before court and remanded, accused of slapping Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja during the recently hotly contested party primaries.

Twinamatsiko found himself on the wrong side of the law for what many describe as “the slap that shook Kakumiro and Uganda”

A scuffle erupted late in the night at the tallying centre in Kakumiro Town Council where tensions were already boiling over allegations of doctored results.

According to eyewitnesses, Nabbanja stormed the tallying station to calm tempers but ended up in the centre of the storm.

In the heat of the fracas, she allegedly slapped Twinamatsiko twice on the cheeks. The youthful politician is said to have retaliated, sparking chaos that forced security operatives from the Counter Terrorism Police and Special Forces Command to intervene.

Videos later circulated showing a shirt-torn Twinamatsiko struggling to catch his breath as NRM district leaders attempted to restore order.

The former legislator claimed he had been assaulted first and that he even sought treatment at Mulago Hospital but his version of events remains unverified.

Curiously, reports also pointed out that Prime Minister Nabbanja was at the time attending a United Nations forum in New York. Her office in Kampala, however, insisted that she had indeed been physically attacked, raising more questions than answers about the true sequence of events.

What is clear, though, is that the aftermath landed Twinamatsiko in the dock. Described by Ugandans as “the brave man of Kakumiro,” Twinamatsiko’s audacious move, however, quickly turned into a costly gamble.

He was swiftly arrested and whisked off to face justice.

On Wednesday, a Kibaale Magistrate ordered that the embattled flagbearer be remanded to Kibaale Government Prison trading campaign microphones for prison coolers. He is expected back in court on September 10, 2025, when his bail application will be heard.

Back home in Kakumiro, residents remain divided. To some, Twinamatsiko is a “brave son of the soil” who dared to confront authority. To others, he crossed a dangerous red line by raising his hand against the Prime Minister of Uganda.

For now, Bugangaizi East’s would-be lawmaker lies behind bars waiting to learn whether his political journey will continue from Parliament’s green benches or stall behind prison cold walls.
