Museveni Condemns Creation Of New Districts Just After Adding Three In Teso

In a twist that’s left many Ugandans scratching their heads, President Yoweri Museveni has come out guns blazing against the creation of new districts and sub-counties just weeks after approving three brand new ones in the Teso sub-region.

While commissioning the flashy new Tooro Zonal Presidential Industrial Hub in Kyenjojo District, Museveni told a crowd of supporters and officials that expanding administrative units was draining public coffers.

“We don’t need more districts and sub-counties,” the President declared.

“They’re expensive and take away money we should be using on education and youth programs.”

But critics were quick to point out the elephant in the room; President Museveni recently just carved out three more districts in Teso region, Eastern Uganda adding to the swelling list of over 140 districts created since he took power in 1986.

The President’s latest speech has fueled debate over whether government priorities are aligned.

While the creation of new districts is often justified as a way to bring services closer to the people, critics argue that the rapid increase has strained national resources, with many newly created districts struggling to operate due to limited infrastructure and staffing.

Still, Museveni used the Kyenjojo platform to highlight government efforts to empower youth through skilling.

He pledged to expand the hub’s capacity, introduce new vocational courses, and construct dormitories to accommodate more students.

He also reaffirmed support for SACCOs and contributed UGX 10 million to each youth group represented.

As Uganda continues to grapple with competing priorities from education to local governance ,many citizens are calling for a more coordinated and sustainable approach.

While the President’s remarks may signal a shift in focus, observers say actions going forward will speak louder than words.
