Bushenyi is on the brink of a political showdown and at the center of the storm is Kemigisha Vianah Kashaya Nyamunyonyi — a youthful, fearless and unapologetic challenger who says the era of “automatic coronations” in the district is over.
After a bitterly contested July 17, 2025 NRM primary, which she insists she won, Nyamunyonyi has thrown off the party tag and declared war as an independent candidate.
She accuses the ruling party of “broad daylight theft,” claiming her victory was shamelessly handed to the incumbent, Hon. Katusiime Annet Mugisha.
“I refused to sign those fraudulent declaration forms because they were a betrayal of the people’s will,” Nyamunyonyi charges. With evidence from Kyabugimbi, Kyamuhunga, Ruhumuro, Kakanju, and Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, she insists the vote was rigged to protect the incumbent.
Now, she is taking the fight directly to Annet Mugisha, the wife of powerful NWSC managing director Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha, who many residents accuse of hiding behind privilege, neglecting grassroots needs, using few tap connections with help of her husband and treating Bushenyi as a family inheritance.
“2026 will not be another coronation day for Annet Mugisha,” Nyamunyonyi vows her voice echoing the frustrations of thousands who feel left out. “The people of Bushenyi deserve a leader who listens, who is present, and who serves not one who rules from a distance.”
Already, her campaign has faced sabotage — posters torn down in Ishaka and Bushenyi, blackmail against her name, and threats to her supporters. But far from being intimidated, the youthful candidate says the dirty tricks only prove her rival is running scared.
“I am not moved. If they thought stealing the primaries would weaken me, they were wrong. The people of Bushenyi have awakened and together we are rewriting history,” she declares.
Her rallies attract youth, women, and ordinary voters hungry for change. To them, Nyamunyonyi is not just another candidate; she is a fresh breath of courage in a political climate long dominated by incumbency and privilege.
Supporters says they are confident their candidate will resoundingly win the incumbent whom they say where she goes to launch tap water ends up launching Nyamunyonyi instead.
As 2026 draws closer, the stage is set for one of Bushenyi’s fiercest political contests. And if Nyamunyonyi’s fiery tone is anything to go by, this will be no coronation but a battle for the soul of Bushenyi.
