State House, Entebbe – August 4, 2025

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni yesterday held high-level bilateral talks with an Egyptian delegation led by Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, at State House Entebbe.

Dr. Abdelatty delivered warm greetings and best wishes from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who expressed hope for strengthened cooperation between the two nations through joint investment initiatives.

During the meeting, the Egyptian Foreign Minister proposed the formation of a joint Egyptian-Ugandan business council aimed at unlocking new opportunities in key sectors such as construction, energy, pharmaceuticals, and digitalization. He noted that Egypt had established a financing mechanism to support development in southern Nile Basin countries, a framework through which the two nations could jointly implement strategic projects.

“It’s a great honor and pleasure to be here to convey the best wishes from your brother President Abdel Fattah, who is looking forward to discussing with you and hopefully hosting a business forum to explore investment opportunities for mutual benefit,” Dr. Abdelatty said.

He also commended President Museveni’s longstanding vision and leadership, particularly his championing of Pan-Africanism and South-South cooperation, describing it as a cornerstone for sustainable development and regional integration.

The two sides exchanged views on deepening economic collaboration and regional stability. Dr. Abdelatty praised Uganda’s contribution to peacekeeping missions, especially in Somalia, and applauded its commitment to regional peace and security.

President Museveni, on his part, reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to working with Egypt and emphasized the importance of preserving African water resources, a matter Egypt considers an existential concern. He underscored the need for equitable and sustainable utilization of the Nile waters for the shared benefit of all riparian states.

The meeting was also attended by Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Okello Oryem, and Minister of State for Environment, Hon. Beatrice Anywar, among other senior officials.

The discussions mark a significant step toward reinforcing the strategic partnership between Uganda and Egypt, with a shared focus on economic integration, water security, and regional development.
