The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has officially launched its General Recruitment Exercise for 2025, offering 11,500 job opportunities to patriotic, disciplined, and qualified Ugandans.
This massive recruitment drive is part of UPDF’s commitment to building a modern, professional, and people-centered force — and it’s calling on all able-bodied citizens to join in serving the country.
Recruitment Dates and Phases
The recruitment exercise will take place in two main phases between Monday, July 7 and Friday, July 11, 2025:
1. Online Application Phase (July 7–11, 2025):
All interested applicants must submit their details via the official UPDF Recruitment Portal:

2. Physical Recruitment Phase (Dates to be communicated):
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend physical and medical interviews at designated district recruitment centers.
Who Can Apply
UPDF is looking for candidates in two broad categories:
1. General Recruitment – Regular Forces
Age: 18–22 years
Education: Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) – O’Level leavers
2. Professionals (including Air Force and Teachers)
Grade V Teachers: Diploma holders aged 20–25 years
Air Force Recruits: Aged 18–30 years, including:
Qualified Pilots & Instructors
Aircraft Maintenance Engineers
Air Traffic Controllers
Meteorologists
IT and Engineering Graduates
Senior Six (S.6) Leavers with science combinations
What You Need to Apply Online
Applicants must upload:
A passport photo
Scanned academic documents
A valid National ID
Once shortlisted, candidates will be notified via the UPDF website and their district headquarters noticeboards.
What to Bring for Physical Recruitment
Each shortlisted applicant must physically report to the recruitment center with:
A handwritten application with signatures from:
LC I, LC II, LC III Chairpersons
GISO or DISO
Resident District Commissioner (RDC)
Original and photocopies of academic documents
National ID / NIN
Three passport-size photographs
Note: Professionals and special categories (Air Force, Grade V Teachers, etc.) will be interviewed centrally at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
District Recruitment Quotas
Recruitment numbers are based on the latest Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) data. Every district and city has been allocated quotas proportional to its population. This means you must apply within your district of residence.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for recruitment:
Must be a Ugandan citizen with a valid National ID
Must be physically and medically fit
Must have no criminal record
Must be resident in the area of application
Must present valid LC and RDC recommendations
Important Reminders
Recruitment is free of charge. Do not pay money to anyone. Report fraud or bribery attempts to the police.
Female professionals are highly encouraged to apply.
Certified academic documents are required for professional applicants.
