Kenya’s Ex DP Gachagua Formally Quits Ruling Party UDA, Brands Ruto’s Regime a ‘National Scam’

Nairobi, Kenya – In the most dramatic political fallout since the 2022 General Election, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has officially resigned from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA)—unleashing a searing attack on President William Ruto and accusing the ruling party of betraying millions of Kenyans and running the country into economic, social, and political ruin.

In a fiery resignation letter dated May 12, 2025, addressed to the UDA Secretary General, Gachagua torches the Kenya Kwanza administration, calling it a “retrogressive regime led by an unfit class to govern our Nation.”

“It was a lie. No nation can be built on a litany of lies,” Gachagua thundered, referring to President Ruto’s 2022 pledges of unity, prosperity, and justice—vows he now says were hollow and deceptive.

The former DP—once the second most powerful man in the land and a co-architect of the Hustler Nation movement—now calls UDA “a political scam” that has “exhausted and wasted” the hope of Kenyans.

A Scathing Indictment of UDA’s Failures

Gachagua’s statement reads like a political obituary for the ruling coalition:

The Hustler Fund? “A Kshs. 500 joke,” incapable of empowering anyone.

Housing Project? “A private business venture weaponized against Kenyan workers.”

Agricultural reforms? “Hijacked by land grabbers and fertilizer cartels.”

Healthcare under SHA? “Collapsed into a corrupt enterprise.”

Education? “A failed CBC system and a broken university funding model threatening the future of our children.”

And he didn’t stop there. Gachagua also slammed the regime’s handling of climate change, sports, women’s rights, ICT, and national debt. He branded the 15 Billion Tree campaign a “global corruption scandal” and accused the government of “reckless borrowing for budgeted corruption.”

“UDA has left every Kenyan on their own and behind,” he declared, in a sobering summary of the party’s alleged betrayals.

The End of Hustler Unity?

Gachagua’s resignation signals a seismic shift in Kenya’s political landscape. Once President Ruto’s loyal right-hand man, he now positions himself as a whistleblower against what he calls a “mischievous and hidden philosophy” hijacking Kenya’s future.

What’s next for Gachagua? Is this the beginning of a new political movement—or the opening shots of a fierce 2027 battle?

One thing is clear: the Hustler Nation has lost its original Deputy—and with him, perhaps its soul.
