West Nile NRM Entrepreneurs Delegates Say Basajjabalaba Too Incompetent to Address Their Problems

Arua– NRM Entrepreneurs League delegates from the West Nile region have come out strongly against the election of Hajj Hassan Basajjabalaba as Chairman of the league on the party’s Central Executive Committee, calling him “grossly incompetent” and unfit to represent the business community.

In a heated meeting held in Arua Town on Tuesday, delegates unanimously agreed that Basajjabalaba’s 2006 -16 tenure had brought no tangible benefits to West Nile’s entrepreneurs despite his high-ranking position in the ruling party’s top organ.

Mr. Peter Obote, a delegate from Moyo District, said the region’s long-standing problems had been ignored for years.

“Since Uganda became a republic, West Nile has never been connected to the National Power Grid. We run businesses on expensive generators, yet the man who claims to represent us on CEC has never even mentioned our plight. That is not leadership it is betrayal,” Obote said.

Ms. Esther Adokorach, a businesswoman from Koboko, said the state of roads in West Nile had made trade extremely costly and dangerous.

“Our roads are impassable for months in the rainy season, yet Basajjabalaba has never lobbied for improvements. We have no industrial parks, no innovations and no investment incentives in his names but he keeps asking for another term. For what exactly?” she questioned.

Delegates accused Basajjabalaba of using the Entrepreneurs League seat purely for personal gain, pointing out that his public record is dominated by scandals rather than advocacy for the business community.

Hajji Idris Okumu from Yumbe said the situation had reached a breaking point.

“We are tired of a representative who has never stood on the floor and spoken about West Nile’s electricity crisis, our transport challenges, or our inability to compete nationally. The only time we hear his name is when he is entangled in another fraud case,” Okumu noted.

The delegates stressed that without reliable power, modern infrastructure and support for innovation, businesses in West Nile will remain trapped in survival mode rather than growth.

“We need a servant leader who will fight for affordable credit, electricity, better roads, and technology hubs,” said Ms. Florence Candia, a delegate from Nebbi. “We do not need someone who has already failed us for years and now wants to fail us again.”

With the August 25th NRM Entrepreneurs League elections drawing closer, West Nile delegates vowed to rally other regions to reject Basajjabalaba and vote in a leader who will “speak, act, and deliver” for the entire business community not just for his family and close associates.
